I don’t know why amazon includes the sony mini-dvds on this page, because they do NOT work with this camera! I ordered them based on amazon’s recommendation and they are not compatible. I’m having a tough time finding a mini dvd-rw that will work with the camera. Otherwise, it is ok. The movie editing software isn’t very easy though, but the picture quality is fantastic. Colors are true to life and recording is easy. My two complaints are mini-dvd-rw issue and crappy software for editing.

UPDATE: Spoke to Canon and now know the difference is the plus/minus! This camcorder requires DVD-R/RW (notice minus sign) and cannot use the DVD+R/RW (notice plus sign). When purchasing mini dvds make sure to get the minus and then just about any brand should work (verbatim definitely does).

I bought this camera in August 2008. I was tired of my old one. It’s really easy to operate. I love it because its very light weight and it can fit right into your bag but I would suggest a camera bag for it. I haven’t taken pictures with it yet. It has a great zoom lens on it. It doesn’t shake. If you love filming like I do you will love this camera. I would suggest it to anyone. It’s a great price too! I watched the Dvd that I had made on my Dvd player and the videos were very clear. This is a real nice camera. One more thing the battery has a nice long charge to it. I only had to charge it twice since I’ve had it.

This camcorder is a very good value. I have used it for a variety of tasks, such as recording family events. It does a great job for that. I have also used it for recording my band’s rehearsal sessions. Obviously, you are not going to get studio quality sound with a camcorder’s microphone. That said, this one did a reasonably good job of capturing even the low end.

I haven’t used the record to disk feature, so I cannot comment on that. I’d recommend getting a large (8GB or more) pro-duo memory stick, which is what I did. Why waste disks? All you have to do is plug the camera into your PC and transfer the files. Lather, rinse, repeat. And if you want to burn disks, why, that’s what the computer’s for!

The user interface for this camcorder is very intuitive. That’s probably one of the highest compliments I can pay. Good video and sound quality are essential, but if you can’t use the stinking thing, then what’s the point? I really didn’t even use the manual and was able to figure out mostly everything just by using it.

Two small gripes: even zoomed all the way out, the shots are a bit tight. Being able to zoom out a little further would be nice so if you cannot physically move back from the subject you can still capture a reasonably wide shot. Also, it has a camera feature (as in for still photos) which isn’t very good; the pictures are on par with a basic cameraphone. That’s a secondary feature and not one I planned to use anyhow, so I don’t really care about that. I don’t think either of these gripes diminish the camcorder’s quality or ease of use.

You could certainly buy a better camcorder, but for the money this is a winner. No buyer’s remorse on this one.

I think that the HD is in progress, because when I record in HD HQ, I can’t edit the recorded material in the cam before finished the DVD.
I don’t have been used all the facilities of the cam recorder.

We just love this camera. It’s fairly easy to use, and super lightweight. The battery lasts a good while. It took a little getting used to in the beginning but once we got the hang of it, it was no problem. I don’t see us having to replace it any time soon.

This is an awesome camcorder, especially for a first time user. It is very easy to use. The picture quality is awesome. I just got it so I’m still playing around with it. It also takes still pics, which is a good feature if something really cute happens and your camera is not handy, but I try not to waste my disc space on pics since I already have a digital camera. The only thing I do not like about the camcorder is you can’t delete pictures or video from the disc once you taken them (like you can with a digital camera)or record over them. Once it’s on the dvd it’s there for good. Now if there is another dvd like a dvdrw that you can do this on, I don’t know. I will look into it.

We bought this camcorder after considering quite a few other models. It seemed to have all the benefits of a compact camera and I liked the idea of no memory cards to transfer data. Our daughter’s first child’s birth was something we wanted to keep forever. Unfortunately, the camera and camera bag were left in a parking lot, never to be seen again. A heartbreaking consequence as the disk contained those precious moments. The disks that come with the camera are for permanent recording, so I suggest that you invest in the read-write-edit disks so you can edit your recordings. Also, do yourself a favor and upload your recordings to your computer as soon as possible, just in case the camera is lost; or remove the disk completely and put it in the disk case, away from the camera. I never had the opportunity to use the camera, so I can not confirm or deny the assets to the Canon DC410, but I like the products and it appeared to be a quality unit. I guess we are just back to using our 12-yr. old Canon camcorder again. Oh well, so much for new technology. The old one still works fine!
